September in Málaga trades the summer's open-air films and beach concerts for something a little more polished — and this month's calendar delivers in style. Top of the list is Málaga Fashion Week, but there's also a season of classic cinema and one of the prettiest concert formats the city puts on all year. Here are three we'd suggest building an evening around.
Málaga Fashion Week — the longest blue catwalk in Europe
Calle Larios rolls out 350 metres of blue carpet from one end to the other, turning the city's main shopping street into a full-scale runway for Spanish and Málaga-based fashion talent. It happens twice, on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 September from 8pm — free to attend, but there aren't many seats, so get there early if you want to sit rather than stand. Even if fashion isn't usually your thing, it's worth seeing simply for the setting: the whole street lit up and closed to traffic for the night.
Edad de Oro — a season of classic film
Running 4–11 September at the Albéniz Cinema on Calle Alcazabilla, this year's programme leans into a run of centenaries — Marilyn Monroe, Buster Keaton's The General, and Mel Brooks among them — plus a 50th-anniversary screening of Scorsese's Taxi Driver. Films are shown in their original language with Spanish subtitles, and tickets are a very reasonable €6 each. A lovely, low-key way to spend an evening if you fancy a break from the heat and the beach.
Music by Candlelight — The Lord of the Rings, 25th anniversary
A string quartet plays the best of the film trilogy's soundtrack by candlelight in the Salón Real at the Gran Hotel Miramar, marking 25 years since the first film. It's on Saturday 5 September, with two sittings at 7pm and 9pm, tickets from €21.50, and the concert runs about an hour — a nice option if you want something a bit different for an evening out, and suitable for children over 8.
